The first function of plasma membrane is surrounding and protecting the cell from its environment. It is also involved in the exchange of substances of the cell. Plasma membrane have a special structure that is called "Fluid-Mosaic Model". According to this model plasma membrane is mosaic of components that move freely and fluidly in the membrane. These components are basicly four types: phospholipids, cholesterol, carbonhydrates and proteins.Cell biology lab.
